Blanca Haddad

(Caracas, 1972)

Multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, poetry, and video art. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Armando Reverón Institute of Higher Studies in Fine Arts (IUESAPAR) in Caracas (1996) and a Master’s in Art and Therapy from the University of Barcelona (2008).

Her work blends autobiographical content with socially-oriented testimonies. In her paintings —as in her poems—, she speaks to us about love, anguish, desire, the body, rage, being a woman, animality, sexuality, being a migrant, and she delves into the complexities of the psyche and the elusive nature of our being.

For Haddad, painting itself is a powerful language that communicates beyond words, which she also uses on the canvas. Haddad represents herself and women as strong, potent, vulnerable animal-beings shaped by feeling-thinking, while also understanding that the keys to comprehending oppression and resistance lie in relationships and the urgency for a better life—with strength, trust, faith, and courage—while operating through irreverence, irony, and humor.
