PARAFERNALIA – Jan Vallverdú

In this exhibition, Jan Vallverdú explores excess and the superfluous through the artistic object, merging languages of the pictorial, mural, and expressionist traditions.

“We live in an increasingly saturated world of representations and surfaces, accumulating accessory distractions. A world full of paraphernalia.”

Vallverdú uses painting to reflect on his surroundings and open a dialogue with his context, presenting stories and paradoxes. His characters fluctuate between a carnavalesque baroque and a formal refinement that reveals their pictorial essence, depicting contradictions and paradoxes that reflect our own experiences and the difficulty of discerning the essential from the accessory.

Jan Vallverdú (Barcelona, 1995) studied Illustration and Applied Arts at La Llotja, and Drawing and Painting at the Academy of Barcelona. He also completed a residency in Aarhus, Denmark, with the project Inhibition. Since 2015, he has held both solo and group exhibitions in Barcelona at spaces such as Art & Culture, Nau Bostik, or Mutuo -Centro de Arte-, and has also exhibited in Rome and Toulouse.
